The Brief

As part of Historical pattern cutting for the Second year of my course I have to make a Burlesque costume  for a 50's style burlesque artist similar to the notorious Gypsy Rose Lee.I have to create a character to design the dress for, this costume with also be designed with the word tattoo as a theme. The garments I have to make is the underwear, the dress and some sort of head piece.Accessories such as stockings, gloves, shoes and jewelry will also have to be sourced and altered to fit the costume. 

The dress shall have a seductive silhouette and be heavily embellished with beads and sequins. 

For research I will use images of burlesque stars from the 50's such as Gypsy Rose Lee and  Betty Page but also look at current burlesque performers for example Dita Von Teese, Immodesty Blaze and Anna Furlaxis.  As the costume must also have an overall glamorous look I will also take into consideration what iconic 50's stars - such as Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russel - wore for red carpet events and on screen.

The finished dress shall be used in a burlesque performance this December.
